Final Reflection

I really enjoyed this class!  I felt like I learned a lot about all that is out there in technology and how easy it is to use it. I thought it was useful to learn how to make a website. I really want to make one for my class when I am a teacher. I feel like it would be very useful and an easy way to get the parents involved in the class. I also loved that blogging was a way for us to do our assignments and I think I would do the same for my students because it is convenient for them and for me and saves trees. I do think i will also make mini videos for my classes or just for fun because it was so simple and would be more enjoyable for my students. I really want to use more technology in my class because i think it is a good way to keep students interested as well. This class changed the way I viewed technology and physical education. I used to think that  they were not connected and that this class wouldn't apply to my major but I was wrong. I know that technology needs to be used and will be for my advantage. I will continue to look for programs to help me teach physical education.

mobile apps

I love mobile apps, they are very fun and convient. You  can do so many great things with them because of the variety and the convienence. I really dont think that I would use mobile apps in class. Apps are very individual and they are hand held so it would be impossible to keep the students on task. I think they are great to use as home work or as a tool to study.

Studio code and video analysis

Watching my video over and over has helped me see a few things that I need to work on. The biggest thing I noticed is that I am terrible at giving feedback. I kept looking for feedback in my video so i could click the button but could not find enough. Even if I did find feedback is was like one word and directed at the whole class instead of an individual.
I also noticed that I need to work on my cues. I did parachute so it was a little harder for me to give cues but I could have shown them how to move the parachute in a few words and then had them do it. I am sure if I would have done that things would have gone a lot smoother. I also was not very good at repeating the cues later for the students. I noticed more than anything how annoying my voice can be sometimes. I really needed to be more excited and stop saying "okay" over and over again!
For when I next teach I will be better at giving cues even if it is a hard lesson to give cues on. I improved in this area after this lesson and things went much smoother but I still need to work on repeating the cues. I also just need to focus on the class more and have fun with them. If I do that I  will be more enthusiastic and be better at giving individual feed back.

studio code....yay

I did studio code..yay. It was not as hard as I thought it would be. I think I everything right,  I am really not sure. My video that I uploaded was really not the best and I didn't realize it until afterwards. My microphone didn't work very well the whole time so I was not able to find things as easily to code.  I also picked the parachute lesson which doesn't have many cues or organization. I still was able to code, just small spurts!
I could use this in my own class because it really lets me see what I am doing and am not doing. I am not quite sure how I can apply to my students but it will help me grow as a teacher.

web 2.0

There were a lot of really cool web 2.0 things like on facebook and blogs. The things that I found to be most beneficial for me as a student and for my future students are the encyclopedias that are available. Even though wikipedia isn't the most reliable it is very handy. There are other encyclopedias that are on the web that do cost money but they are the most updated and correct information. This helps students to be able to easy find information and for me as a teacher that will be teaching about the human body and best things for it can always have updated and correct information.
I am trying really hard to think of ways facebook applies to education but I cant really think of much. It helps stay connected so in a way you could make a facebook page of you as a teacher and also maybe a group for your class to post things and get them interactive with the class. I think a website would probably be a little safer for this but I really don't know!

Commercial.dv

I am finally finished! It was a rougher process. Once I understood the program things were pretty easy. It was an easy program to just figure things out in which I really enjoyed. I did try to learn the iMovie 08 on my computer and it was terrible. I couldn't figure things out at all! Dan was right. I had to go to the lab which was a bummer but thats okay! I finished in the lab but I did something weird and the computer froze. I had to force quit and start over. Then I opened it on a different computer and started again and for some reason it wouldn't save. So I did it a third time and I started from scratch and it finally worked! It was frustrating but i got really good at the program and understand the basics enough. Keepvid.com was a cool website and helped me to make the video so much better, putting the music in was simple.
I really enjoyed this project and I feel like I will be able to make cool videos for my classes and it is would not take that much time. It will be harder since I only have iMovie 08 but hopefully i will update it soon and things will be more simple.
This was a great experience and I am excited to use this in the future in my class and just in my life!

iMovie

Kelsey and I filmed what we wanted to use in the commercial. We haven't really been able to work on iMovie yet but I was beginning to understand at the last class. We have an idea of music we want and we are hoping things will go smoothly as we put them together.

The Video Outline

I am in a group with Kelsey. Our Theme is "Physical Activity for Life." We have a few ideas and they are about finding ways to make things physically active. One of our ideas is to have a lady whipping something in a bowl with background music of "whip it good." Slowly the lady will get more and more into the whipping motion and maybe a little dancing. The screen will then say "Anything Counts" and then "Physical Activity for Life." We have also thought about making one of a lady vacuuming and dancing, or making one in the office environment. We are still brainstorming to find one that shows people of all ages doing something active and easy to do which is why we like the home cleaning ones or little things to do in an office.

Internet Safety

Ever since that class I have been really paranoid about the internet. I take it as a good thing because I was really relaxed before and really unaware of the dangers out there.  I have tried to fix my profiles so that my birthday isn't posted. I have always been very careful about my pictures. Part of the reason is because our track team coaches will check our facebook pictures and if anything in there looks not good and doesn't represent BYU in a good way then we can get in to trouble. I have also always been really smart about not posting my address and my phone number. I also have a junk email account that I post if I must post an email account. I have also changed my password for different things because they were probably simple to crack. I have added caps and numbers in the middle just to make it harder to get in.
I have done research to look at other aspects of internet safety and I really didn't find anything different than what we learned in class. There were many websites focused on how to keep your children safe on the internet. Google had many videos of their employees talking about out child safety, here is the link. From my research I better learned what I would do for my children and if I had a teenager.
I will have my computer in a central location so that my children can't hid anything that they are doing on the internet. I will tell them what they can and cannot post on the internet. I feel like if my teenagers are informed that will help with a lot of the problems. I would try and keep them away from meeting people online and if they do I would try and keep them from meeting them or go with them to meet them. To keep my children safe, if I have a blog, I will have a private profile so that I can post pictures of them but make sure to not post information of what school they go to and an details like that. If I was a teacher I would mostly tell my students to stay away from meeting people online and to trust no one when it comes to the internet.
I taught my roommate about internet safety and the majority of the things I taught her and we discussed were common sense to her and nothing really new. But I taught her how to find out if a website is secure or not. She loved knowing that and we both spent a little while looking at common websites we use and buy things off of to see if they are secure. Luckily, the majority of them were. It was fun to discuss and my roommate had some great input as well such as how to deal with the teenagers and such. I just really wish I knew more about internet safety earlier.

The website is finally finished!

I really enjoyed this project. I think that learning how to make a basic website will be a very useful tool in teaching and in life. I will use one when I am a teacher because it is an easy way to make announcements and post information for the students. The website also provides a way for parents to feel apart of the class and know what is going on in their child's life.
I think i could make another website if I wanted to. I think it would also take me a lot less time. After I found the insert button it was pretty easy from there. I think this was a great project to do because I can use a website in other aspects of my life if I wanted to. I also feel pretty smart saying I made my own website! My website is:https://sites.google.com/site/dianemcallisterclasssite/

I think I'm starting to get it!

The website is coming along. I think i basically understand how to insert the different things now. Last class was very helpful. I was having a hard time finding the insert button. When I finally found that things started to come together. I just need to do the syllabus stuff, which I am not looking forward to. It has been fun making the website and actually being able to insert things. I would like to find ways to make the website better looking because I am not in love with any of the lay outs. I am still looking for ways to do that. I should probably start focusing on the other requirements though. Things are going good though! no major questions so i think that is a good sign!

The Website

I am having a really hard time with the website. I have been playing around trying to figure things out and have gotten no where. I really want to find out how to display a picture on a page and on the tool bar. I have figured out how to attach them but I just want them to be there on my page. This site is frustrating but I will hopefully start making progress soon or watch the tutorial.

Copyrights- Good or Bad?

I have very mixed feelings when it comes to copyrights. I think that they are very important for many reasons. They are a way for the artist or creator to get money and credit for the things that they created. I like what we learned in class, that the reason for copyrights is to continue creativity and prevent the same things being done over and over. I do think that the people who were creative enough do make things that are copyrighted should receive money for their work, like in music and movies.
I don't really like copyrights because I love how convenient it is for me to get new music off my friends computer. I justify it by thinking that majority of these artist have enough people buying their songs and me not buying it isn't that big of a deal. I am trying to be better and I buy all my music now. Music is the only thing that I would like to have some sort of copyright law changed but I am not quite sure how to change it.

So Many Resources

I would love to get to know how to use the resources we learned about in class and that are on the technology list. I think that diigo.com is an awesome website than can be useful for me everyday. It will help me as a student when studying for classes and as a teacher when I do research for my classes. Moodle.com will be a cool website to use when i am a teacher because I will be able to have  place where my students can go for assignments and have a way to easily contact me.
The google umbrella is what I find most helpful as a student to stay connected with teachers and form study groups over the internet with the sites, documents and calenders they provide. Google has a very easy to use format and because of that it will be a very simple way to connect with my students. There are so many resources out there that i would love to learn how to use and that would make my work more efficient. I am excited to learn how to use them.

My Experience with Technology

I am definitely not a techie but I am not totally lost when it comes to computers, so i guess that puts me in the middle.  I know how to do the basics on Word Office. I own a Mac and I absolutely love it. I know how to use the basic programs on my computer like iCal, iTunes, and iPhoto. I taught myself how to use those basic programs pretty easily but I think that was because they are easy programs. I would love to learn more about those programs and how use iMovie. I also don't feel like I know how to use my Mac as well as I should so I would like to learn how to better utilize my computer. My goals for this semester are to learn how to use the internet and computer so I can apply it to teaching physical education to make physical education more fun and entertaining; as well as using technology to make me an efficient teacher.
